The city of Praia is the capital of Cape Verde and is also the largest city of the country. One of the most famous areas of Praia is the "plateau", where all the historical buildings are, such as the Presidential Palace the old City Hall. The city is also known for its night life and its energy. Beside all this characterítiscs, Praia is the economic centre of the Cape Verde.

The cidade Velha (Old City) is located 15 km from the city of Praia, it was the first capital of the country and a stopping point for sailors like Vasco da Gama and Cristovão Colombo. It is a true outdoor Museum.
Also worthy of a mention is the Etnographic Museum, whose building in a classicist style is a valuable construction, not only from the city, but also from the entire Santiago Island.

One of the best beaches in the Santiago Island is Tarrafal, located about 60 km from the capital, but in the city of Praia there is the  Praínha, situated in one of the best areas of the city and the Quebra Canela beach..
