After spending over half a century sunk in oblivion, the Valle Flôr Palace was acquired by the Pestana Group, whose considerable efforts to recuperate and restore it successfully recaptured all the original beauty and splendour of the façades, interiors and gardens. Built in 1904 under the guidance of Italian architect Nicola Bigaglia, the present-day Pestana Palace Hotel boasts a magnificent setting in the city of Lisbon, with unrivalled views over the River Tagus. The palace became a National Monument in 1997 and contains some fine examples of frescos, paintings, plasterwork, stained glass windows and other decorative details that have been painstakingly restored.
The Pestana Palace Hotel is a member of the “The Leading Hotels of the World”, a status which places it amongst the most elegant and luxurious hotels across the globe. It has 194 rooms, four of which are royal suites.
The Palace building now houses the chapel, the public areas of the hotel (the concierge's desk and the reception, the lounges, the bar and the Valle Flôr Restaurant), the small meeting rooms and the four royal suites.
The lounges are rich in decorative details, influenced by the French School. The Marquises’ private quarters were turned into beautiful, spacious suites. Here, once again, the walls are adorned with works of art, complemented by elegant antique furniture and luxurious settees. The views over the River Tagus and the Palace’s vast gardens are a constant feature of all the royal suites.
The Valle Flôr Restaurant, a landmark in Portuguese gastronomy, occupies the Palace’s former ballrooms. A luxurious ambience with marble pillars, large mirrors and ornamental details on the ceilings.
Chef Pedro Marques and his team are responsible for excellent Portuguese cuisine that is present in the Valle Flor restaurant and has received several national and international awards.
The gardens are another feature that make this a unique hotel in the Portuguese capital, and the property’s size and opulence led to it being classified as a National Monument. Set in the gardens is the Casa do Lago, or Lake House, an oriental style decorated pavilion where lunches and teas are served. Set amid the gardens, the former lake is today the Palace’s outdoor swimming pool.
The gardens serve as the link between the Palace and the new buildings, between past and present.
The new buildings house the bedrooms, the generously-sized meeting and function rooms, the indoor pool and a modern Spa.
Opposite the Palace are the Old Stables; they too have been restored by the Pestana Group and today serve as a unique venue for staging meetings and events. A unique setting, with its very own garden.
