This refurbishing of the Casino da Madeira took place at the time of the 10 year renewal of the Concession and Exploration of the Games of Chance in the Permanent Gaming Zone of Funchal and in accordance with the agreement assumed by Group Pestana.
Group Pestana concluded the uplift project of the Casino da Madeira presenting an interior decor totally renovated as well as new exterior illumination of the building. The concept of decoration of the Casino da Madeira has the sea for theme, and all the interior décor is based in the colours of blue and green. Simultaneously the project enhanced the access facilities for the clients to the areas of entertaining and gaming. This project, created by a group of International Architects was based in a survey study on the preferences of the present clients of the Casino da Madeira
Luigi Valle, Board Member of the Group Pestana, and also responsible for the area of Organizational Development, Senior Management of Marketing, Purchasing and E-Commerce of Pestana Turismo, as well as Senior Management of the Casinos, points out “the objective of the remodeling project also aims at the increasing of clientele of the Casino. We are confident that with a larger variety of entertainment options and the additional animation components will bring success, not only among the population of the Autonomous Region of Madeira but also to the many visiting tourists”.
By concentrating all the gaming activity in the ground floor of the building, the overall remodelling of the Casino da Madeira created a Sala Mista (Mixed Room). In this amplification project the entrance floor gained an additional area, having installed in this area two American Roulettes, two Black Jacks, and one Poker in addition to the slot machines. A more appealing and diversified offer. A total acquision of 70 new machines, supplied by one of the most important international suppliers, now presenting a Casino da Madeira with a total of 180 machines.
Casino da Madeira is now the first Casino of Europe having available 10 machines “M-P Series Roulette Revolution” a top rank of IGT, the international leader supplier in the industry of slot machines. IGT revealed this important acquision by Casino da Madeira in a press release.
The Sala Mista will also have a lay out alteration in the equipments of game and in the colour scheme, turning it in a more attractive area with easy circulation of users.
Another aim in this project was taking advantage of the potentialities of the first floor of the Casino da Madeira, changing it into an ample space without architectonic barriers thus facilitating the performing of shows with the capacity of about one thousand people.
Group Pestana also made a total renovation in the Copacabana Disco, updating the technical and décor concepts giving it a better capacity to serve the clients by taking advantage of the large area of the first floor of the building. Up to now this area was mainly used for the banking games which due to the small number of users made the Room of Traditional Games an empty place and therefore less comfortable and less appealing. Further to this a new ventilation and air conditioning system was installed to improve the comfort and well being conditions of the clients.
In this Remodeling Project the Group rigorously maintained the characteristic trace of the building with its form and exterior glass colour remaining exactly the same as its original existence, in this way, giving the sensation of no change to its pose and dimension, bearing in mind that this is an emblematic beacon of Funchal, authored by Oscar Niemeyer but nevertheless turning the Casino da Madeira a more appealing place. The project contemplates the illumination décor of the building, by using the most modern techniques of illumination available in the market, as well as the creation of an “illuminated avenue” which will visibly conduct those who pass by the Avenida do Infante to the doors of the Casino.
