Group Pestana’s philosophy in this sector is to provide guests with the opportunity to own weeks in a luxury holiday home that is fully integrated into a 4 or 5 star hotel resort owned and managed by the Hotel Division of Pestana Hotels & Resorts, Portugal’s leading Leisure group.
Marketing began in October 1985 with the launch of the first holiday ownership resort, Pestana Madeira Beach Club, comprising 150 seafront units offering a wide range of style and sleeping capacity. With the success of this first entry into holiday ownership, further excellent sites were acquired and more resorts were soon to follow. Pestana Palms, Pestana Village, Pestana Miramar, Pestana Carlton Tower Suites and Pestana Grand have been developed and sold in Madeira as holiday ownership properties linked into a hotel complex and have all come to set a standard of excellence in accommodation, services and facilities.
In 1996, Pestana took its expertise in this sector from the island of Madeira to the Algarve on mainland Portugal where properties such as Pestana Clube de Férias, Pestana Alvor Beach Club, Pestana Palm Gardens, Pestana Viking and more recently Pestana Alvor Park have established Pestana as a major player in the holiday ownership sector in this region.
At the end of 2004, Pestana had a total of 10 holiday ownership resorts in Portugal comprising 692 luxury units with 23,000 weekly intervals sold and 25,000 owner/member families. In 2002, Pestana launched its mixed use hotel/holiday ownership concept at its 5 hotel properties in Brazil. 2002 also witnessed the launch of Pestana Holiday Club with the intention of providing its members with the added benefit of exchanging weeks into all 33 hotels, holiday ownership resorts and 42 Pousadas of Portugal owned and managed by the Pestana Group.
Group Pestana has received a number of international awards and distinctions from Resort Condominium International (RCI), the world’s largest holiday exchange company. Pestana has 10 resorts affiliated with RCI, all of which carry the coveted Gold Crown Award which is presented to the top 5% of the 4000 resorts in the RCI worldwide exchange programme. Pestana is also affiliated with RCI Points, a concept that offers Pestana owners greater trading power for their weeks and far greater flexibility than the traditional exchange system.
