Welcome to Copacabana, one of the tropical paradises of the Western imagination and the dream destination for all Americans and Europeans. Pestana Rio Atlântica, a hotel with all the services you could wish, is right in the middle of the mythical Avenida Atlântica, where the Carnival parades take place and where over two million people celebrate the New Year in a beach covered with flowers and in white. With very fast access to Galeão International Airport and just a few minutes away from the holy trinity of all first trips to Rio - Corcovado, Pão de Açúcar and Calçadão - this is the best starting point to have fun or work in the city.
Although it is popular and highly wanted, in Copacabana you can still have a very authentic experience of what life is like in Rio. From 6 am the Boardwalk overflows with cariocas playing sports - jogging, walking and cycling - and then gets filled with foreigners and sellers of anything that you can imagine. But the best way to get to know the surrounding area is to go up to the Penthouse, where the great bar Deck is located, one of the new city hot spots, which gathers hundreds of people in their parties and weekend hangouts. If you think you are coming to work and partying is not for you, forget about it.
Everyone is welcome and the good atmosphere and charm we breathe in the entire hotel are truly contagious. Even if you don't have time to do anything, go for coffee or a drink on Deck after dinner and you will see how the animation of streets is contagious. But first, your room. When you enter Pestana Rio Atlântica there is always someone to escort you and explain you what to do next. Besides the reception, there are concierge and guest relations services to help you organize your entire stay. Actually, if you request it when you are booking, the front desk staff will send you a transfer to bring you to the hotel with all the comfort.
This is not a standard service, but the safety and tranquility are worth the investment. When you go up to your room, the surprises begin. The hotel is very modern, urban and sophisticated, and the light and bright atmosphere conveys that exactly. Whether you are staying with the sea front view, side view or even the view of the morros and the city, you will not escape from the essence of Rio. Here you will find the most elegant buildings and the slums conquering the morros, the palm trees and the trees that punctuate the avenues and the beach and sea that dominate the surrounding area. The rooms are very comfortable and always have a large work surface, for those who need it. The air conditioning and wi-fi are always available and, whenever you arrive, the room service arrives too.
Pestana also offers a beach service, right in the middle of Copacabana, where towels, sun beds and water are provided, so that you can enjoy the best of Rio. Street vendors keep passing by, usually selling cloths, bikinis, imitation jewelry and snacks. Drinking coconut water to recover from the heat is an institution. But if you are going to the beach alone, do not think of leaving your belongings on the sand: as soon as you take the first dive, they will be gone. If you follow these simple rules, you have a lot to discover: walk through the Arpoador, visit the famous sands where Jobim saw the girl from Ipanema walking, and going straight ahead to the exclusive area of Leblon ensures that you have a lot to see, learn and enjoy.
The coast is beautiful and the sea permanently invites you to take a refreshing dip. An easy rule to remember is that if you follow the sea, you will always find the most beautiful and wanted places of Rio. Two blocks inside, at the three neighborhoods that you will walk to, you'll find the shopping avenues. From the most sophisticated Ataúlfo de Paiva, to Visconde de Pirajá, and the very popular Nossa Senhora de Copacabana, it has banks, pharmacies, clothing stores, juice houses and even shopping malls. In Leblon, be sure to visit Livraria da Travessa, an amazing space that gathers books, records and a restaurant together, in addition to a huge part of the intellectual beautiful people of Rio.
Bibi juice house is also a mandatory stop and here you can have a very light satisfying and inexpensive lunch; in order to regain the strength required for another walk. And from the cheapest to the most expensive, the Museum of H. Stern awaits you for a visit where you can buy both luxury pieces as much as a souvenir made in stone from Brazil. Go to the hotel's corner and they give you the entrance, it's really worth it. If you want to make a more organized tour, or take the beautiful tram that takes you to Corcovado, ask to book it in the hotel. There you find all the programs, tickets to the championship football games happening every Wednesday, and then you get to know the amazing environment of Maracanã; the slum Tours, where you go to Rocinha on jeep, one of the most famous slums of Rio. It is not easy to deal with what you see, but you get to know the way the other part of the population lives.
Of course the visit to Pão de Açúcar is less adventurous, but if you need a shot of adrenaline, go to Pedra Bela for a paragliding jump. The best way to see Rio is by air and this jump is much more exciting than a helicopter tour - which is also good, obviously. For architecture lovers, a trip to Niterói, home of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Casa das Canoas and numerous works of Niemeyer, are a must see. But if you are a fan of classical arts, the Museum of Fine Arts and the Municipal Theatre are the right place for you. The botanical garden and the Tijuca Forest are impressive. If you love to go to a club and go out at night, then Deck is the place for you, a place where all the tribes are welcome and where you can find the best electronic music parties in the city, with world famous DJs.
There are also many jazz, hip-hop and other music style festivals, and the best thing is that afterwards you just have to take the elevator back to your room. In a completely different register, it is worth going to Rio Scenarium, a place in Lapa where you can listen to chorinho and samba music, in a full expression of the popular music of Brazil. Rio de Janeiro has an amazing life and there is always something interesting happening. And Pestana Rio Atlântica, right in the middle of Copacabana, is definitely THE place to stay.
Pestana´s Tip: Pestana Rio Atlantica and its Deck bar became one of the city references when it comes to parties and large events. The Budweiser hotel of the World Cup took place here and numerous sports tournaments and teams are hosted here. The atmosphere is always lively and very busy and the weekend parties extend often by night. If you like to always be at the center of events, then this is definitely the right place for you.
