Dengue in Madeira
The ECDC - European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, after being consulted by the Portuguese authorities of Public Health and the WHO - World Health Organization analyzed the situation in the Autonomous Region of Madeira and issued a document entitled "RAPID RISK ASSESSMENT - autochthonous dengue cases in Madeira Portugal 9 October 2012. In that document, it is clearly stated that "... the situation does not imply any restrictions on trade or travel beyond disinfestation being implemented."

Sabores da Ilha da Maderia
In Madeira and Porto Santo there are restaurants for all tastes. In the restaurants you will be offered caco cake (a cake baked on a plate) with garlic butter or grilled limpets, served with lots of garlic and lemon juice.
Other specialties include tomato and onion soup served with a poached egg, wheat soup and ‘açorda’, (bread soup) a dish made with bread, garlic and poached egg.
The most famous traditional meat dishes of Madeira are kebabs, and beef with wine and garlic. Meat dishes are usually accompanied by fried corn, carrots, green beans and sweet potatoes.
Fish is present in the most traditional dishes of the island. Tuna, cod, squid and skipjack are some of the fish mostly served in local restaurants.
Regional desserts include cheese-cakes (cakes made of cheese, eggs and sugar), honey cakes (one of the oldest desserts of Madeira) and passion fruit pudding.
Also famous is the Madeira wine, as well as the punch (white rum, honey, lemon juice).

Funchal Airport is 16 km from the city centre. Daily connections by air between Funchal and Porto Santo.

Faro: There are no direct flights to Madeira.
There is a paid shuttle service in Funchal (Aero-bus) from the Airport to Praia Formosa. The course lasts 45 minutes and takes around 20 minutes to arrive at the city center.
