Pestana Inhaca Lodge
Pestana Inhaca Lodge is located on Inhaca Island, at the entrance of Maputo Bay, in the south of Mozambique. Although small, this island has great tourism value due to its beautiful coral reefs and gorgeous beaches. The entire island is protected as a natural reserve, along with the nearby Portuguese Island.

The island marine ecosystem cover areas of open water - home to a variety of species of, fish, dolphins and whales - coral reefs, bays and coves, and the "intertidal zones." Coral reefs, known by the people as Tsonga tikontweni, divided into 45 different genres, and include black corals, used in traditional medicine of the island. The two main reefs are the Red Barrier Reef and Coral Ponta Torres. The Cove South, known as the "Sac Inhaca" also stands out, as shrimps, crabs, molluscs, and splendid sea-stars of vivid tropical colors inhabit their muddy bottoms.
In shallower water several species can be found: birds, including flamingo. The "intertidal zone" are rich in seagrass and algae that attract turtles and dugongs, species at serious risk of extinction.
Besides being rich in natural heritage, Inhaca is also noted in the cultural and social dimension. Despite the relatively short distance to Maputo - about 30 km, which means 2h boat or a flight from 15m - Inhaca Island stills mantaisn it's original features. The islanders conserve and revive every year several collective ceremonies like kupatkha, a ritual invocation of the ancestors, or the ceremonies of propitiation of rain.
The hotel in Inhaca is located on the beach, amidst colonies of coconut trees and lush tropical vegetation. It is known for its marvelous gardens, warm hospitality and delicious food.
Guests can enjoy the outdoor pool where drinks or snacks can be served, or make use of the selection of games available at the game parlor room. The most active and adventurous can partake in the following activities: scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, pedestrian walks on numerous tracks, excursions to the lighthouse, the Marine Biology Museum, whale watching, as well as boat visits to Portuguese Island and Santa Maria.
The hotel has a restaurant that extends outdoors, to an adjacent terrace, where you can appreciate a full view of the garden, swimming pool and sea, and where you can also, enjoy your main meals. The gastronomic delights of the island offer delicious flavors where traditional dishes are served "A la carte" or buffet style.
In order to relax after a day at the beach, we invite you to enjoy a cocktail at the bar. The Piña Colada is a favorite or feel at home and have your usual afternoon tea.
Pestana Inhaca Lodge has a total of 40 rooms located amongst wonderful coconut trees and exotic gardens, all of them equipped with mosquito nets, ceiling fans, telephones, Satellite TV, Air Conditioning and Internet Access.
HOW TO GET THERE
The island is actually very close to the city of Maputo and easily visible in a clear day .There are several options to get there, whether by sea , air or land (part of the trip).
The air transfers are regular and the most used: a flight of only 15 min, at low altitudes, very pleasant with lovely views. For those who like the touch of the sea , you can choose whether you prefer a luxury cruise on a catamaran with drinks and snacks served on board (2 -3h) , to rent a motorboat, ( 45 min ) , or choose one of the ferry boats available .
The State Ferry Nyeleti Maputo , makes connections river 5 times a week with very cheap tickets and allows you to have the experience of feeling the local environment , along with the local fishermen and the island that go to city looking for opportunities . At week- ends , there is an additional option with a morwe familiar ferry.
Finally, for the more adventurous, there is still a chance to make a safari in the Elephant Reserve in the south of Maputo and go up to the tip of Machangulo, then a motorboat makes a little connection between the mainland and the island taking you to the hotel where you can freshen up and then relax.
