Buenos Aires is the capital and largest city of Argentina, located on the banks of the Río de la Plata estuary in the northeast of the country. It is known as the "capital of tango" and for its cosmopolitan, European-inspired atmosphere ("the Paris of South America"). It is organized into neighborhoods with strong personalities: San Telmo (the oldest, with its Sunday market), La Boca (colorful, with the Caminito), Recoleta (elegant), and Palermo (parks and nightlife). The Pestana Buenos Aires is located in Microcentro, next to Avenida 9 de Julio and the Obelisk.
In Buenos Aires, the Pestana Group operates the Pestana Buenos Aires, a 4-star hotel with a spa at Carlos Pellegrini 877, in the heart of Microcentro, next to Avenida 9 de Julio and a few steps from the Obelisk and the Teatro Colón. Its central location puts guests close to Florida Street and Galerías Pacífico, making it convenient for both leisure and business. It is the only Pestana property in the city.
Because it is in the Southern Hemisphere, it has reversed seasons compared to Europe. The best times are the austral spring (September to November) and autumn (March to May), with mild weather ideal for strolling through San Telmo, Recoleta, or Palermo. Summer (December to February) is hot and humid but lively; winter (June to August) is cool and quiet, good for museums, theaters, and Buenos Aires cafes.
Buenos Aires has two airports: Ezeiza (EZE), which receives most international flights, about 32 km from the city center (approximately 45-60 minutes by car, with transfers and buses like Tienda León); and Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP), mainly for domestic flights, only about 7 km from the city center, next to the Rio de la Plata. There are shuttles between the two airports. From either airport, the Microcentro (city center) can be reached by taxi, transfer, or bus.
In the historic center, Plaza de Mayo with the Casa Rosada and the Cabildo, and nearby the Obelisk and the Teatro Colón (next to the Pestana Buenos Aires). La Boca seduces with Caminito and street tango; San Telmo with its Sunday market; Recoleta with the famous cemetery where Eva Perón rests. Palermo includes the Bosques de Palermo and the Japanese Garden, and Puerto Madero offers a modern riverside promenade. There is no shortage of museums and tango shows.
Buenos Aires has one of the most comprehensive transportation networks in Latin America. The Subte (metro) is the fastest, with six lines (A to E and H); Line D is useful for tourists (Plaza de Mayo, Teatro Colón, Recoleta, Palermo). There is a vast network of buses (colectivos), taxis, and ride-sharing apps. Payment is made with the rechargeable SUBE card. From the Pestana Buenos Aires hotel, the Tribunales/Teatro Colón station (Line D) is just a few steps away.
