The Pestana Douro Riverside results from the conversion of a historic factory in the Portuguese industrial landscape, built in 1888. Through different administrations and over a century, the factory produced candles, soap, and vegetable oils. The large chimney next to the reception is one of the living testimonies of this past.
The hotel thus combines the most modern technology with the heritage of a historic factory. Inspired by the aromas of floral soaps once produced here, each floor is dedicated to the scent and color of the flowers that identifies it: lavender, jasmine, orange blossom, rose, cherry blossom, chamomile, geranium and lily.
