Our hotels in Maputo
Maputo is the capital of Mozambique, in the far south of the country, next to the mouth of the estuary of the same name and overlooking the Indian Ocean ("the pearl of the Indian Ocean"). It is a cosmopolitan coastal city that combines Portuguese colonial heritage with African and Indian influences, famous for its wide avenues lined with acacias and jacaranda trees, its colonial architecture and Art Deco buildings, its lively markets and the Marginal Avenue along the bay. In the historic center, opposite the Cathedral, is the Pestana Rovuma hotel.
In Maputo, the Pestana Group is represented by the Pestana Rovuma, a 4-star hotel in the historic downtown area, next to the Cathedral and the City Hall, and about 400 meters from the Tunduru Garden. It operates as a City Center & Conference Hotel, popular with both leisure and business travelers, and features an outdoor rooftop pool overlooking the downtown area. It is a short walk from the train station, the Central Market, and the Fortress.
The best time is the dry season, especially between May and October, with clear skies, plenty of sunshine and little rain; daytime temperatures are around 24-28 °C, with cooler nights. These are ideal conditions for walking around the city center, markets and the beach. The hottest and most humid months (December to March) bring more rain but are still suitable for those who prefer warmer weather. At the Pestana Rovuma, in the city center, you can take advantage of this pleasant climate to explore the city.
The gateway is Maputo International Airport (MPM, or Mavalane), about 3-6 km from the city center (10-15 min by car). It is the largest in the country and a LAM hub, with flights from various African and European cities. From the airport, you can reach the city center by taxi, private transfer, or minibus ("chapas"). Maputo is also connected by road and rail to other cities and to South Africa. The Pestana Rovuma hotel is a short distance from the airport.
The Central Railway Station (CFM, 1908-1910), considered one of the most beautiful in the world; the Central Market (Bazar, 1901), a commercial heart with fruits, spices and handicrafts; the Marginal Avenue, by the sea; the Maputo Fortress (1787); and the Iron House, attributed to Gustave Eiffel (1892), along with the Natural History and National Art museums. All are within a few minutes' walk of the Pestana Rovuma.
The most practical and comfortable way is by taxi or car with driver, recommended between the airport, the hotel and tourist attractions (private transfer can be arranged). There are also local minibuses ("chapas"). Given the central location of the Pestana Rovuma, next to the Cathedral, many points of interest (CFM train station, Central Market, Fortress, business district) are within walking distance.
