Maputo is the capital of Mozambique, in the far south of the country, next to the mouth of the estuary of the same name and overlooking the Indian Ocean ("the pearl of the Indian Ocean"). It is a cosmopolitan coastal city that combines Portuguese colonial heritage with African and Indian influences, famous for its wide avenues lined with acacias and jacaranda trees, its colonial architecture and Art Deco buildings, its lively markets and the Marginal Avenue along the bay. The most practical and comfortable way is by taxi or car with driver, recommended between the airport, the hotel and tourist attractions (private transfer can be arranged). There are also local minibuses ("chapas"). Given the central location of the Pestana Rovuma, next to the Cathedral, many points of interest (CFM train station, Central Market, Fortress, business district) are within walking distance.
