Our hotels in Madrid
Madrid is the capital of Spain, in the geographical center of the country, on the Castilian plateau at an altitude of approximately 650 meters. It is known for its "Triangle of Art": the Prado Museum (Velázquez and Goya), the Reina Sofía Museum (with Picasso's "Guernica"), and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. City life revolves around the Plaza Mayor, the Puerta del Sol, and the Gran Vía. It offers large green spaces such as the Retiro Park, the Royal Palace, and the Temple of Debod, typical gastronomy, flamenco, and nightlife. Pestana hotels are located in the center: the CR7 on Gran Vía and the Collection on Plaza Mayor.
In Madrid, the Pestana Group has two properties in the city centre. Pestana CR7 Gran Vía occupies a renovated 1920 building, with 168 rooms, at Gran Vía 29, just a few minutes from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor, and features a gym and an outdoor pool. The Pestana Collection Plaza Mayor is located at Calle Imperial 8, integrated into Plaza Mayor, in a building over 400 years old that reopened in 2019, with 89 rooms, a spa, a gym, and two swimming pools (one rooftop and one indoor in the former coal mine, with original arches).
The best seasons are spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October), with mild temperatures (around 15-25 °C), fewer crowds in museums, and lower prices than in the peak of summer. In spring, the Retiro Park is full of flowers. July and August are very hot (highs close to 40 °C), so it is recommended to stroll around in the morning and take refuge in the museums in the middle of the day. However, Madrid is worth visiting all year round.
The gateway is Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD), the largest in Spain, about 12 km from the city center. The metro connects via Line 8 (Aeropuerto T1-T2-T3 and T4 stations, ending at Nuevos Ministerios), with a transfer to the city center in approximately 25-30 minutes. Alternatively, the Cercanías train (C-1) connects T4 to Atocha and Chamartín in approximately 25-30 minutes. There is also the Airport Express, taxis, and transfers. The metro easily reaches the vicinity of the Pestana hotels.
Start with the "Art Triangle": Prado Museum, Reina Sofía ("Guernica") and Thyssen-Bornemisza. In the historic center, Plaza Mayor (where the Pestana Collection Plaza Mayor is located) and Puerta del Sol, near the San Miguel Market, the Almudena Cathedral and the Royal Palace. It's worth strolling along Gran Vía (next to the Pestana CR7 Gran Vía), relaxing in Retiro Park, seeing the Temple of Debod at sunset and Plaza de Cibeles, and watching flamenco. The gastronomy ranges from tapas to churros with chocolate.
Madrid's metro is extensive, modern, and efficient, making it the most practical way to get around the city, complemented by buses and Cercanías (local bus rapid transit). The historic center, where the two Pestana hotels are located, is compact and easily explored on foot: from Gran Vía and Plaza Mayor you can reach Puerta del Sol, the Royal Palace, and the Art Triangle. Near the Pestana CR7 Gran Vía there are metro stations in Callao (L3, L5) and Gran Vía (L1, L5); the Pestana Collection Plaza Mayor is near the La Latina station.
